Probe Intensifies at Al Falah University After Red Fort Car Blast

by TheReportingTimes

NEW DELHI, Nov. 20 — Over 200 doctors and staff of Al Falah University are being examined by security agencies in connection with the November 10 car blast near the Red Fort, as investigators work to identify possible accomplices of the suicide bomber, officials said.

Authorities have been conducting frequent checks at the university, causing unease among students and employees. On Wednesday, several staff members were observed leaving the campus with personal belongings. University sources said the departures were officially leave-related.

Investigators are focused on tracking those who left after the blast. Sources indicated that some of these individuals are suspected of maintaining links with terrorists, while deleted mobile data is also being scrutinized. Police have searched off-campus student hostels and questioned over 1,000 people as part of the investigation.

A significant development came with the detention of a 35-year-old Anganwadi worker in Hidayat Colony, Nuh, who had rented a room to the suicide bomber, Dr. Umar Un Nabi. The suspect had been absconding since the Delhi attack. Authorities are also questioning her family and seven others in Nuh to determine connections with Umar, who had used multiple mobile phones during his stay there.

Hospital sources at Al Falah Medical College said patient turnout has fallen since the terror links emerged. “Outpatient visits, which used to be around 200 daily, are now below 100,” they noted.

Doctors conducting apprenticeships at the hospital revealed that Umar had been absent for about six months in 2023 without leave but resumed duties immediately upon return. “He mostly took evening or night shifts, and gave very short lectures—just one or two a week for 15-20 minutes each,” one doctor said, noting that his schedule drew criticism from colleagues.

Multiple investigative agencies, including the NIA, Delhi Police Special Cell, UP ATS, Faridabad Crime Branch, and Jammu and Kashmir Police, are operating on the campus. The Enforcement Directorate also began work on Tuesday, establishing a temporary command center to coordinate the investigations.
