CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government has expanded its anti-drug initiative by integrating Anganwadi workers as Nasha Mukti Mitras to lead door-to-door awareness and early intervention efforts across rural and urban communities.
Speaking at a public gathering in Malout, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur declared that community participation remains central to eradicating substance abuse. She stated that community health workers, local school authorities, panchayats, and Ward Defence Committees are forming a unified local network to safeguard youth.
Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur asserted that creating accessible recreational facilities helps divert youth energy toward positive pursuits. She pointed out that ongoing initiatives like the annual Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan sports festival are actively promoting athletic engagement across all districts.
The Minister maintained that early intervention at the household level is crucial for effective prevention. She asserted that grassroots ambassadors will help break the social stigma around addiction, ensuring that individuals in need of medical help receive timely guidance and access to state-run rehabilitation services.
