Successful knee replacement at PIMS shows impact of state medical scheme

Hoshiarpur, May 5: The Bhagwant Mann administration’s health policy has provided a new lease on life for Kewal Kaur, a resident of Hoshiarpur district, by facilitating a free knee replacement surgery. The procedure has effectively ended a half-decade of physical struggle for the 65-year-old, who had become entirely dependent on a walking stick and the assistance of others.

Mandeep Singh, Kaur’s son, affirmed that the surgery was the only remaining hope after years of failed medicinal treatments. He declared that the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana removed the financial obstacles that had previously prevented the family from seeking specialized surgical care.

“When my mother became completely dependent, surgery was our only hope,” Singh said. He asserted that the restoration of his mother’s health was not just a medical success but a restoration of her self-respect and independence.

The operation was performed at the Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences by a specialized team that included Dr. Anit Sachar. Following the two-hour procedure, Kaur has entered the recovery phase and is expected to have her stitches removed shortly.

Officials stated that the scheme’s coverage extends to significant surgical interventions that are often financially out of reach for rural families. Singh affirmed that his mother was part of a larger group of patients from various villages who benefited from the program during the same week.

Kaur declared that the ease of the process and the lack of financial strain have significantly improved her outlook on life. She stated that the ability to walk again without pain allows her to live with renewed dignity, citing the government’s intervention as the primary catalyst for her recovery.
