Chandigarh, July 24: Financial assistance under the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana is delivering vital daily support and autonomy to Punjab’s oldest women residents. Designed to offer financial backing alongside traditional pension benefits, the program ensures that elderly women retain the resources needed to address immediate healthcare and living costs.
“At this age, money becomes your companion; you need it for everything,” maintained Jasmel Kaur, a 102-year-old resident of Faridkot. She shared that the government support enabled her to manage personal healthcare expenditures while offering financial aid to her family members during medical emergencies.
Many senior beneficiaries actively pursued enrollment under the initiative after learning about the benefit from community networks, traveling to nearby Anganwadi centers alongside relatives to finalize their documentation.
“I will keep this money with me and spend it wherever I wish,” declared Angrej Kaur, aged 102, who allocated her funds toward health expenses, clothing, and support for her extended family.
The funds have also provided solutions for long-standing physical and medical challenges among recipients. For 102-year-old Pritam Kaur of Moga, the three thousand rupees assistance funded a wheelchair and medicines, allowing her to move around her home with greater ease.
“I will spend part of this money on my daughters, who are also in their 50s, and use the remaining amount to buy a hearing aid for myself,” declared 109-year-old Bharbhur Kaur of Sangrur, noting that the initiative provides unprecedented support for senior women across the region.
The policy continues to receive strong appreciation from beneficiaries who view the targeted financial distribution as an effective effort toward social security and respect for senior citizens.
“I have never seen any government before that has given such dignity to the women of the state,” affirmed Mukhtiar Kaur, 110, of Kotkapura.
