Chandigarh, August 16: A tragic road accident on the Dehradun-Panchkula National Highway claimed the lives of ITBP DIG Parminder Singh and his driver Ramsharan after their vehicle veered into opposing traffic, local police confirmed. Four other individuals, including the officer’s security personnel and occupants of another vehicle, sustained injuries during the crash near Sarsawa police station.
The incident unfolded as the Mahindra Scorpio carrying the DIG turned out of control at high speed, struck the median divider, and landed directly in the path of a Swift car travelling from the opposite direction.
“Doctors declared Parminder Singh and Ramsharan dead on arrival,” affirmed Senior Superintendent of Police Abhinandan Singh, noting that police units acted swiftly to evacuate everyone from the site to the medical college in Pilkhani.
The SSP maintained that the late DIG was originally a native of Ropar, Punjab, who was currently serving in Srinagar. He had recently finished a training regimen in Mussoorie and was driving toward Ambala when the mishap took place.
Distress calls prompted senior administration officials, including District Magistrate Arvind Chauhan and SSP Abhinandan Singh, to inspect the hospital setup and oversee relief measures.
The police have dispatched the bodies for post-mortem examinations while further administrative and legal steps remain underway.
