Chandigarh, Oct 7: Punjab State Power Corporation Limited has outlined measures to fortify state power transmission infrastructure as electricity requirements hit historic levels. Speaking in his initial official address after taking charge, CMD Gurkirat Kirpal Singh detailed operational priorities centered on grid strengthening, fiscal discipline, and consumer responsiveness.
The utility’s strategic focus comes in response to seasonal demand spikes that saw power consumption cross 17,500 MW in the state. Explaining the factors behind the high demand, Singh pointed to broader atmospheric conditions including the El Niño effect, which generated nationwide pressure on energy generation and supply channels.
In addition to infrastructure expansion, PSPCL has prioritized the realization of over Rs 2,500 crore in pending power bills owed by public sector entities. The utility chief reiterated that equal emphasis is being placed on maintaining continuous supply stability, strengthening financial recoveries, and resolving pensioner matters.
The power distribution body also mandated a proactive approach to resolving public complaints, instructing officials to treat media-reported issues as operational cues for immediate resolution. Further, the management reaffirmed its commitment to transparent media interactions and structured engagement with all stakeholders.
