Punjab Police brief detention of Bittu after PAU gate demonstration in Ludhiana

High-voltage political protest organized as BJP leader returns items from earlier Batala convoy incident

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Sept 19: Former Union Minister and BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu was briefly taken into police custody on September 19 after staging a high-profile demonstration near Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana as Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s cavalcade crossed the area. The protest coincided with the Chief Minister’s visit to the university grounds for official engagements.

Positioning himself near the entrance, Bittu held up eggs, tomatoes, and a liquor bottle towards the passing vehicles, declaring that he was symbolic returning the objects thrown at his cavalcade near Batala a day prior. Speaking to reporters, the BJP leader declared that political parties possess the right to raise public issues and stage democratic demonstrations, maintaining that such actions reflect opposition accountability rather than confrontation. Punjab Police officers intervened shortly after the incident and detained Bittu to ensure smooth traffic movement for the Chief Minister’s convoy. Authorities later released him as the venue events continued as planned.
