Chandigarh, June 20: Over 6.91 lakh women across Punjab have received direct financial assistance as part of the state’s ongoing commitment to social welfare, with the government distributing upwards of ₹305 crore through May. Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur reported that the initiative is functioning smoothly to protect individuals facing sudden economic transitions. The program seeks to deliver consistent livelihood support to prevent financial distress among single-parent households and low-income demographics.
The initiative targets specific eligible groups, providing a reliable economic cushion to unmarried women over thirty as well as widowed and destitute individuals under fifty-eight. Department officials affirmed that streamlining access to these welfare benefits is part of a comprehensive strategy to foster an inclusive and compassionate society. The government has committed to a substantial fiscal allocation for the upcoming terms to maintain continuity and efficiency in the delivery system.
“Over 6.91 lakh women across the state are currently benefiting from the scheme, enabling them to achieve greater financial security and lead their lives with confidence and self-respect,” Dr. Baljit Kaur stated. She declared that the administration remains fully dedicated to delivering social security benefits to every needy woman. “The initiative is a significant step towards strengthening the safety, dignity and self-reliance of women,” the Minister affirmed.
The program maintains strict eligibility parameters, including a family income threshold of ₹60,000 per annum, to protect the integrity of the state fund. Administrative channels are continuously being optimized to minimize processing delays and facilitate hassle-free enrollment. The Minister maintained that true regional development is achievable only when vulnerable populations are systematically shielded from severe financial strain.
