Chandigarh, May 4: The Punjab Advocate General’s office has come under threat from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang after the state successfully moved to block the promotional content of a controversial web series. Maninderjit Singh Bedi received two distinct messages warning of physical harm, which investigators believe are direct retaliation for his role in the legal proceedings against the glorification of organized crime.
The controversy centers on “Lawrence of Punjab,” a series whose trailer was recently taken down by ZEE5 following a central government order. Officials asserted that the content posed a risk to social harmony and glorified the life of Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently held in an Ahmedabad jail for multiple high-profile cases. The threat against the Advocate General highlights the volatile nature of the state’s campaign against the romanticization of the gangster lifestyle in popular media.
“The directive was part of a broader push to curb online material linked to figures like Bishnoi,” authorities affirmed, explaining the context of the legal action.
Law enforcement agencies stated that the security detail for the Advocate General is being reviewed in light of these developments. The government maintained that it will not be intimidated by such threats and will continue to identify and block any digital content that promotes violence or criminal networks. Nodal officers affirmed that the legal fight against organized crime includes both physical policing and the regulation of influential online media.
“Authorities flagged the potential of such content to influence youth and embolden organised crime networks,” officials declared while justifying the ban.
