Union Accused of Blocking Himachal’s Development

Jagdish Reddy claims Revenue Deficit Grant withheld to weaken state economy

by TheReportingTimes

Mandi, Feb 7: Congress leader Jagdish Reddy has leveled serious allegations against the Union Government, claiming it is employing a deliberate strategy to economically destabilize the Himachal Pradesh administration. Speaking from Mandi district’s Seraj constituency on Saturday, Reddy stated that the withholding of the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) is a calculated move to stall progress under the current state leadership.

Reddy mentioned that despite the central government’s actions, the state has managed to maintain the pace of public welfare initiatives. He noted that the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has prioritized recovery and reconstruction following the catastrophic natural disasters that struck the region between 2023 and 2025.

“The BJP-led central government wants to weaken Himachal’s government by every possible means, but the Chief Minister chose public interest over political pressure,” Reddy directly said during the press conference.

The Congress leader noted that the denial of the RDG is a violation of the state’s constitutional rights rather than a request for charity. He mentioned that such financial cuts typically occur whenever a non-BJP government is in power, which he described as a direct hit to the spirit of India’s federal structure.

Reddy mentioned that Himachal Pradesh contributes significantly to the nation through its natural resources and military service, making any discriminatory treatment unjust. He called for the immediate restoration of the grant or the announcement of a specialized revenue package tailored for disaster-prone hill states.
