Kharar, September 15: Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board chairperson and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab general secretary SS Ahluwalia on Monday reviewed several ongoing projects in Kharar, noting that the works would improve both drinking water supply and sewerage facilities in the town.
Ahluwalia first inspected the Rs 22.15 crore drinking water project at Jhangian Road, which aims to provide canal-based potable water to Kharar residents. “Once complete, this project will ensure a reliable canal-based drinking water supply to the people of Kharar,” he said during the visit.
He later reviewed the Rs 18.61 crore sewerage project on the Kharar–Ladhran Road, designed to address long-pending sewerage problems in the town.
The chairperson also assessed progress on the Rs 14.83 crore sewerage treatment plant (STP) near Khuni Majra village. He noted that once operational, the plant will treat wastewater for agricultural use. “Treated water from the STP will be supplied directly to farmers’ fields, turning waste into a resource,” Ahluwalia mentioned.
Together, the three projects amount to over Rs 55 crore in investment, which officials said would significantly improve urban infrastructure and provide relief to both residents and farmers in the region.
