Mumbai, April 02: India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has decided to leave Mumbai and play for Goa from the 2025-26 domestic season, citing personal reasons. The move marks a surprising exit from the team that shaped his international career.
Jaiswal formally requested the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to relieve him, and the governing body accepted his request. “Yes, it is surprising. He must have thought of something to make such a move. He has requested us to relieve him, and we have accepted,” an MCA official told PTI on Wednesday.
Goa Cricket Association’s secretary, Shamba Desai, confirmed Jaiswal’s arrival, stating, “He wants to play for us, and we welcome him. He will be playing from next season.”
Jaiswal could also be a captaincy candidate for Goa when not on national duty. “Yes, that can happen. He plays for India, so he can be the captain, and we will work in that direction,” Desai added.
Jaiswal becomes the third Mumbai cricketer in recent years to move to Goa, following Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad, who made similar switches ahead of the 2022-23 season.
Since making his Test debut against the West Indies in July 2023, Jaiswal has been India’s preferred opener, playing 19 Tests with an average of over 52, including four centuries and 10 fifties.
