3-Months of Anti Ganster Drive: 561 raids, 281 Arrests

Authorities report 22,886 total arrests since January; anti-drug drive continues parallel momentum

Chandigarh, April 21: Punjab Police teams carried out over 500 raids on Tuesday to further weaken the influence of organized crime groups. Marking three months of the “Gangstran Te Vaar” campaign, police officials reported the arrest of 281 people and took preventive action against 70 others to maintain public order.

The initiative, spearheaded by DGP Gaurav Yadav, utilizes data-driven mapping to target specific locations linked to known criminal associates. Officials affirmed that the primary objective is to ensure a gangster-free environment through relentless enforcement and community participation via the dedicated anti-gangster helpline.

“Every police personnel are committed to intensifying this operation for the safety and betterment of residents,” a senior official asserted. The department declared that 61 individuals were released after thorough verification, ensuring that the operation remains focused on genuine criminal threats.

While the anti-gangster drive progresses, the parallel “Yudh Nashian Virudh” mission against narcotics saw 116 additional arrests on Tuesday. This brings the total number of drug smugglers apprehended over the last 416 days to 60,008. Authorities stated that the recovery of narcotics and drug money continues daily, alongside a dedicated effort to transition users toward rehabilitation facilities. The government declared that the dual focus on dismantling gangs and eradicating drugs remains the state’s top priority.
