Amritsar, April 21: A targeted operation by the Punjab Police has led to the arrest of five men and the seizure of over 7 kg of heroin intended for distribution across the state. The arrests were made following intelligence reports regarding local operatives coordinating with international smugglers to facilitate drone-based deliveries of narcotics into the Amritsar sector.
The law enforcement teams initially intercepted Deepak Singh, a 22-year-old with a prior criminal record, recovering a significant portion of the haul. This arrest provided the leads necessary to capture four other members of the syndicate. Police officials stated that the suspects were strategically placed in local villages to manage the “last-mile” delivery of the drugs once they crossed the border.
“Pak-based smuggler was coordinating distribution of drugs through local handlers,” Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar asserted. He maintained that the swift action by the Amritsar teams prevented the large consignment from reaching the streets.
The DGP stated that the arrested individuals are currently under interrogation to reveal the backward linkages into Pakistan and the forward linkages within Punjab’s districts. Authorities declared that the impounded vehicle and mobile data from the suspects are being analyzed to disrupt the communication channels used by the smugglers. DGP Gaurav Yadav affirmed that the police remain committed to breaking the backbone of organized drug cartels to ensure a safer environment for the citizens of Punjab.
