GIDDERBAHA, May 24 — A bitter political spat has erupted between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon and Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring over alleged delays in development works in Gidderbaha, intensifying tensions between the two parties in the politically significant constituency.
Accusing the local Congress-dominated municipal council of obstructing key projects, Dimpy on Thursday said political rivalry was taking precedence over public interest. “I went and appealed to the municipal council president, asking him not to let political grudges affect public welfare. I even told him to take credit for the foundation stones. But he replied that he would act only on Raja Warring’s instructions,” Dimpy claimed. “As a result, six months have been wasted. Otherwise, streets would have been constructed by now. I am now trying to make alternate arrangements.”
Raja Warring, who served as Gidderbaha MLA for three terms and is now Ludhiana MP, dismissed the allegations and hit back at the ruling AAP. “They talk about 12 years versus 2.5 years and raise slogans, but the people of Gidderbaha know the ground reality,” he said in a Facebook live on Friday. “The Chief Minister is theirs, the government is theirs – then why the excuses?”
Defending the municipal council, Warring said projects require proper resolutions and consensus. “The works related to the Gidderbaha Municipal Council require a resolution, which includes consultation with all MC members and the council president. If this process is bypassed, how can any work be justified?” he asked.
He also questioned the status of AAP’s earlier promises. “What happened to the Malwa canal work and the 15-day sewerage promises? If I am not wrong, only Rs 70 lakh has been allocated for Gidderbaha town’s works after the bypoll,” he said, calling on the Chief Minister to release pending funds and collaborate with local authorities.
The war of words comes amid mounting public frustration over slow-paced development and unmet promises, with both parties now trading barbs over who is responsible for the gridlock.
