Patwari Held Taking Bribe Outside HSVP Office

by TheReportingTimes

PANCHKULA, May 28 The Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday evening arrested a patwari, Rakesh Kumar, red-handed while allegedly accepting a ₹20,000 bribe near the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) office in Sector 6.

The arrest followed a complaint from Virender, a resident of Saketri, who told ACB officials that Kumar had demanded ₹25,000 each from him and his four brothers to process a compensation file related to land acquired by HSVP in 2003. The family had challenged the original payout in court, which later ordered enhanced compensation.

ACB Inspector Virender Kumar said a trap was laid after verifying the complaint. “We caught Rakesh Kumar accepting ₹20,000 as negotiated from the original demand,” he said.

HSVP estate officer Manav Malik stated that Rakesh Kumar was not a permanent employee but a contractual worker assigned through the Haryana Kaushal Rojgar Nigam Limited. “He was posted in the survey branch to assist in revenue matters. The department will review the case internally,” Malik added.

The accused will be presented in a local court on Wednesday. A case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered.
