Zirakpur, June 18, 2025: A 21-year-old law student from Amritsar was arrested with an illegal firearm from a hotel room in Zirakpur, police said on Tuesday. The accused, Yadvinder Singh, was found in possession of a .32 bore pistol and four live cartridges during a raid carried out on the basis of a tip-off.
Yadvinder, a resident of Majitha Road in Amritsar, is currently enrolled at a private law college. He had been staying at the Zirakpur hotel for the past few days when a team from the CIA staff, led by Inspector Harminder Singh and operating under the supervision of senior district officers, detained him.
“We received specific intelligence about the presence of an illegal weapon. The accused was found with the pistol in his room during a thorough search,” said Inspector Harminder Singh.
Police have registered a case under Sections 25, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act at the Zirakpur police station. Yadvinder has been taken on police remand for further questioning.
Sources said the investigation now focuses on how the student acquired the weapon and whether it was intended for self-defense or other motives. “We are exploring all angles, including potential criminal links and possible threats he might have perceived,” a senior police official added.
