DAMASCUS, JULY 28 — To “secure” Syria’s borders and rebuild its devastated economy, President Ahmad al-Sharaa stated that Damascus is seeking a comprehensive security framework with neighboring nations, including Israel. The Syrian government expressed a clear preference for establishing diplomatic and security accords to prevent further military escalation in southern border zones.
President al-Sharaa maintained that creating a predictable security environment is vital for economic revival and domestic stability.
The diplomatic initiative follows repeated cross-border strikes and ground movements into southern Syria since the political transition in late 2024. Syrian authorities stated that diplomatic engagement offers the most viable path toward safeguarding national interests while preventing additional territorial friction along the occupied Golan Heights frontier.
State officials declared that domestic security and humanitarian reconciliation remain the primary focus for the government.
Damascus is currently managing internal security challenges posed by active non-state armed groups in northern and southern regions, alongside legacy elements of the former regime. Government bodies affirmed that efforts are concentrated on facilitating the safe return of refugees, addressing the issue of missing persons, and working constructively with regional partners like Lebanon to achieve lasting stability across the Levant.
