MOHALI, JUNE 4 — Former bureaucrat Sanjay Gupta joined the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission as its new chairperson on Wednesday after being sworn in by Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond.

The transition of leadership took place at Vikas Bhawan in Mohali, where Sond noted that Gupta’s vast administrative insights would provide significant value to the regulatory framework. The newly appointed chairperson declared that the body would actively target infrastructural inefficiencies to improve consumer services across the state.

“The commission would continue to work in accordance with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003, while safeguarding the interests of consumers,” Gupta maintained after taking the oath.

Gupta, who retired from the Indian Administrative Service after a career that included leading the Himachal Pradesh bureaucracy, stated that reducing transmission line losses remains critical to achieving long-term energy goals. He added that the administration intends to provide high-quality electricity to the public with minimal interruptions.

Sond congratulated the new chairperson, affirming that the state administration remains focused on delivering transparent and reliable utility management under the direction of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

“The Commission has a pivotal role in achieving these objectives,” Sond declared, welcoming the new leadership in front of family members and senior energy department executives, including PSPCL head Dr. Basant Garg and PSERC board members.
