Mohali, Aug 2 —The anti-narcotics special operations cell in Mohali has busted an illegal online betting racket and arrested one suspect, police said on Saturday. The raid was conducted near Sector 80, where the accused was allegedly operating a betting network tied to offshore platforms.
The arrested individual, identified as Sanjay Arora, was taken into custody during the operation led by Inspector Darbar Singh, in-charge of the special cell. Acting on a tip-off, the team seized ₹50,200 in cash, a mobile phone, and a car bearing registration number PB65BK7331 from the scene.
According to the police, Arora was found placing bets on behalf of illegal online platforms trikalexch.com and sattasport.in. “Preliminary investigation revealed that Arora used WhatsApp to share betting numbers and results with clients. Bets were linked to real-time outcomes, and payments were routed through UPI transactions to create a facade of legitimacy,” said Inspector Singh.
Police suspect Arora was a middleman for a larger syndicate operating across state lines. Crucial digital evidence recovered during the raid reportedly confirms his role in the betting network.
Arora was produced before a local court on Friday and remanded in police custody for three days. Officials said further investigations are in progress to identify his associates and uncover the full scope of the operation. “We expect more arrests as we follow the money trail and digital communications connected to the racket,” a senior officer said.
