DAV College Staff Issued Notice Over Disability Harassment Complaint

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Aug 11 — The UT State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities has served notices to the principal and three assistant professors of DAV College, Sector 10, in connection with a disability harassment complaint lodged by an assistant professor.

The complainant, who has 50% permanent locomotor disability, has accused the faculty members— from the mathematics, chemistry and commerce departments — of repeated manhandling, harassment, blackmail, verbal abuse and discrimination between January 2023 and May 2025.

Acting under provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act, the commissioner’s office stated in its notice that prima facie offences under Sections 89 and 92 appear to have been committed. All four have been directed to file their responses by August 20, with proceedings set to begin on August 25.

According to the complaint, multiple appeals to college authorities since 2023 failed to prompt effective action, leading to escalation to the state commissioner.
