Srinagar, September 8 — Two terrorists and two soldiers were killed in a fierce gunbattle in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday, while an Army Major sustained injuries, officials said.
The encounter began after security forces launched a joint search operation in the Guddar forest area of Kulgam based on specific intelligence provided by Jammu and Kashmir Police. When troops noticed suspicious movement and challenged the suspects, they came under heavy fire, officials added.
During the exchange, Sub Perbhat Gaur and Lance Naik Narender Sindhu were critically injured along with an Army Major. The two soldiers later succumbed to their wounds, while the officer is reported to be stable.
The Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps paid tribute to the fallen soldiers in a post on X, saying it “honours the supreme sacrifice of the Bravehearts, Sub Perbhat Gaur and L/Nk Narender Sindhu, in line of duty for the Nation. Their courage and dedication will forever inspire us.”
Initial reports suggest that one of the slain terrorists was a local, while the other is believed to be a Pakistani national known by the code name “Rehman Bhai.”
Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat visited the encounter site and praised the coordination among the Army, CRPF, and police. “The joint effort reflects the strength and vigilance of our security forces in eliminating threats,” he noted.
The operation has since concluded, but officials said searches in the area are continuing to rule out the presence of more militants.
