NEW DELHI, September 28 — The Delhi Police Special Cell on Saturday arrested an alleged member of the Hashim gang, Rubal Sardar, from Amritsar airport in Punjab, officials said. The arrest comes amid an ongoing crackdown on gang networks operating across Delhi and neighboring states.
A senior police source said a lookout circular had been issued against Sardar, who was being tracked by multiple law enforcement teams. “He was apprehended after sustained surveillance. Further questioning of Sardar is underway to ascertain his role in the murder and possible connections with other gang-related activities,” the source said.
Sardar is being interrogated in connection with the killing of Nadir Shah, 35, a co-owner of a gym who was gunned down by two motorcycle-borne assailants in Delhi’s Greater Kailash on September 12, 2024. The murder case was first registered at the Greater Kailash police station and later transferred to the Special Cell for investigation.
Police investigations have pointed to the involvement of associates of jailed gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Hashim Baba. Preliminary findings suggest that the killing was carried out on the instructions of Sameer Baba, a close aide of Hashim Baba.
Officials added that Shah was allegedly linked to Rohit Chaudhary, another gangster known to be a rival of the Bishnoi network. The Special Cell is probing whether Shah’s links with Chaudhary triggered the targeted attack.
The arrest marks another step in Delhi Police’s efforts to curb organized crime, which has increasingly spilled into the capital’s residential and commercial hubs. “We are tightening the net around all those associated with these gangs,” the source noted.
