Paonta Sahib, Oct 15: The Sirmaur Police have seized assets valued at ₹1.34 crore belonging to a habitual drug peddler in Paonta Sahib, following a detailed financial investigation under the NDPS Act.
Superintendent of Police Nishchit Singh Negi said the property of Sanjay Kumar, alias Sanju, a resident of Ward 10, Deen Nagar, Paonta Sahib, was confiscated after legal formalities were completed.
The financial probe, led by DSP (Headquarters) Ramakant Thakur, was conducted by a special investigation team that tracked the flow of illicit money generated through the narcotics trade. The inquiry found that assets worth ₹1,34,79,508 were acquired through illegal means and were subsequently seized.
It may be recalled that on August 15, police had recovered 40.32 gm of heroin from Sanjay Kumar’s residence. Despite multiple arrests in the past for similar offences, the accused had continued drug peddling, police said.
SP Negi said that assets worth ₹4.43 crore have so far been seized in six cases related to drug traffickers in Sirmaur district. “We are determined to dismantle narcotic networks and choke the financial backbone of the drug trade. There will be zero tolerance toward drug-related activities,” he said.
