Hoshiarpur, November 1, 2025: Guru Ravidas Ayurved University’s decision to relax the Punjabi language condition in faculty recruitment has triggered political controversy, with Congress accusing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of bending rules to accommodate candidates from outside Punjab.
Congress leader Rahulinder Singh Bhattal alleged that the move “was done at the behest of AAP’s Delhi leadership,” claiming it undermines local candidates. “The three-year relaxation clearly benefits non-Punjabi applicants,” he said.
The recruitment notice for 38 teaching faculty posts at Government Ayurvedic College, Patiala, allows applicants to clear the Punjabi language requirement within three years of appointment — a relaxation not permitted under state civil service rules.
Meanwhile, the university has also reduced the mandatory probation period from three years to two. “The selected candidates will be on probation for two years, extendable by one more year based on performance,” the advertisement states.
University registrar Dr Sanjeev Goyal maintained that the institution follows its own adopted rules under the medical education department. “There is a provision of clearing Punjabi within three years,” he said.
The Punjab Language Department has issued a notice to the university calling the clause “illegal” and sought correction in line with existing recruitment norms.
