Una Warns Residents of Cold-Related Health Risks

UNA, DEC 19— With the cold wave tightening its grip, the Una district administration on Friday urged residents to take health precautions and limit outdoor exposure to avoid cold-related illnesses.

Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal advised people to stay indoors as much as possible and dress appropriately when stepping out. “Cover your head, ears, hands, feet and nose, and keep track of weather forecasts through radio, television and newspapers,” he said.

Officials recommended wearing multiple layers of woollen clothing, consuming nutritious food and hot beverages, and ensuring proper ventilation while using heaters, coal stoves or kerosene appliances. “Lack of ventilation can lead to serious health hazards,” the advisory said.

Lal cautioned against strenuous physical activity in extremely low temperatures, saying it could increase the risk of heart-related complications.

Explaining warning signs, he said numbness in body parts or the appearance of white or yellow patches on fingers, toes, ears and the nose could indicate frostbite. “Excessive shivering, lethargy, fatigue, impaired memory or slurred speech are signs of hypothermia and should not be ignored,” he added.

The administration urged residents to seek medical help promptly if such symptoms appear.
