SRINAGAR, DEC 30: Crime Branch Kashmir’s Economic Offences Wing has completed its investigation into a large-scale job fraud case and filed a chargesheet against the director of a private company accused of duping more than 1,300 youths across Kashmir.

The accused, Ranjeet Prasad of Bihar, heads True Dreams Project India Pvt. Ltd. and has been booked under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC for cheating and criminal conspiracy, officials said.

“The case stemmed from a complaint alleging that a recruitment drive was conducted in Kashmir, during which youths were lured with assurances of jobs and tuition support,” the EOW said in a statement issued to Kashmir News Observer.

Officials said trainees were promised salaries between Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 12,000 per month but were instead made to pay Rs. 2,400 each as a registration charge. The money was collected, but no employment or payment followed.

“Prima facie evidence established that innocent students were cheated on the pretext of employment,” the statement said, adding that the investigation stood proved against the accused.

The chargesheet was submitted before the Sub-Judge’s court in Sumbal. Police said Prasad failed to join the investigation and could not be located at the address provided.

“Due to his non-availability, proceedings under Section 512 of the CrPC were initiated and the chargesheet was filed in absentia,” the EOW said.
