Kapurthala, December 31: Under Punjab’s anti-narcotics campaign ‘Yudh Nashe Virudh’, an unauthorised structure allegedly belonging to a drug trafficker was demolished on Tuesday in village Secha, falling under Sultanpur Lodhi police station jurisdiction.
The demolition was carried out after the village panchayat passed a resolution demanding action against the illegal occupation of panchayat land. Following the recommendation and report submitted by the BDPO, Sultanpur Lodhi, the civil administration deployed heavy machinery to clear the encroachment.
According to officials, Gurbhej Singh alias Bheja, son of Jarnail Singh, had unlawfully occupied community land and constructed a house on it. The operation was executed jointly by the civil and police administration, with sufficient police presence to ensure peace during the drive.
Kapurthala SSP Gaurav Toora, while confirming the action, said the accused is a habitual offender, with nine criminal cases, including multiple cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, registered against him. He said the demolition was carried out strictly as per legal procedure.
The SSP lauded the village panchayat for coming forward and setting an example in the fight against drugs. He said the state government remains firm on its stand against drug trafficking and encroachments linked to criminal activity, adding that such actions would be intensified in the coming days.
