Top IPS officers Kapur and Kumar take over ITBP and BSF

by TheReportingTimes

New Delhi, Jan 14: Security agencies along India’s international borders will see a change in command following a series of top-level appointments cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. The latest transition involves moving the current ITBP head to the BSF, while bringing in a veteran from the Haryana cadre to oversee the China-fronting border force.

“Kapur, a 1990-batch IPS officer, is currently working in his cadre state Haryana,” officials mentioned while detailing the new ITBP chief’s background.

Praveen Kumar, who previously led the ITBP, will now command the BSF, which is responsible for guarding the borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh. Kumar’s new term is set to last until his retirement in late 2030. Simultaneously, the NIA has transitioned from temporary to permanent leadership under Rakesh Aggarwal. Having served as Special Director General within the agency, Aggarwal is expected to bring localized expertise to his new role as Director General.

Government orders directly said that the appointments are aimed at strengthening the command structure of the nation’s primary security wings. These changes come as part of a routine but critical administrative exercise to fill vacancies and ensure that all major central agencies have dedicated full-time leadership.
