New Delhi, Jan 15: The Indian mission in Tehran has called on all citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) to exercise extreme caution and avoid areas of demonstration. With approximately 10,000 Indians spread across the country, the embassy is working physically to reach individuals in various provinces to assess their evacuation needs.
The advisory follows a period of intense unrest in Iran, which has reportedly led to significant casualties during government crackdowns. Officials noted that the situation remains precarious after U.S. President Donald Trump warned of “very strong action” if the Iranian regime continues its current course of action.
“Indian nationals who are currently in Iran are advised to leave Iran by available means of transport, including commercial flights,” the embassy stated in its latest circular.
Beyond students, the evacuation plan is expected to cover around 2,000 fishermen and thousands of pilgrims who visit the region annually. Authorities mentioned that all Indian nationals should ensure their travel and identity documents are readily accessible as the government coordinates airspace clearances for the potential airlift.
