Tricity remains under cloud cover as rain continues

by TheReportingTimes

CHANDIGARH, Jan 23 – A fresh wave of rain and thundershowers swept through the tricity on Friday, providing much-needed relief from the dry winter air but further cooling the regional atmosphere. The rainfall started in the early hours of Friday and continued sporadically, leaving roads rain-soaked and the sky heavily overcast.

The transition to wet weather has prompted weather experts to issue advisories regarding the potential for intensified cold. Officials from the India Meteorological Department noted that the combination of moisture and wind could make the existing cold wave feel more severe for residents in Chandigarh and its vicinity.

Regarding the specific weather patterns observed, the IMD mentioned that the region might experience lightning and gusty winds ranging between 30 and 40 kmph. These conditions are expected to affect isolated pockets within the tricity and surrounding districts as the system moves through.

“Rain is likely at a few places in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula on Saturday too,” the department noted in its official bulletin, suggesting that the damp conditions will linger through the weekend.

The lack of sunshine on Friday contributed to the chilly atmosphere, as thick clouds remained stationary over the city. Experts noted that while the rain is beneficial for certain environmental factors, the accompanying wind speeds and lightning require residents to stay cautious during their commutes.
