New Delhi, Jan 26: The national capital witnessed a grand display of India’s evolving military strength and cultural heritage as the 77th Republic Day celebrations unfolded at Kartavya Path on Monday. The event served as a platform for the country to demonstrate its developmental milestones and defense capabilities, featuring recently established units and advanced weapon systems utilized during Operation Sindoor.
President Droupadi Murmu led the ceremony, arriving at the venue in a traditional ceremonial buggy. She was joined by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Council, Antonio Luis Santos da Costa, who attended as the chief guests for this year’s festivities. Upon their arrival at the saluting base, the dignitaries were received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Prime Minister earlier paid homage to fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial. Accompanying him were Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and the top brass of the armed forces, including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Celebrating under the central theme of ‘150 years of Vande Mataram,’ the parade showcased the country’s collective aspirations. Prime Minister Modi shared his vision for the nation’s future during the celebrations.
“Best wishes on Republic Day,” the Prime Minister said. “May this occasion add renewed energy and enthusiasm in our collective resolve to build a Viksit Bharat.”
A significant moment of the morning occurred when President Murmu conferred the Ashoka Chakra upon Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, recognizing his exceptional service and bravery.
