Fazilka, Jan 26: Governor Gulab Chand Kataria hoisted the national flag in Fazilka during a state-level Republic Day function on Sunday. During the event, the Governor announced an upcoming foot march through the border districts of Fazilka, Ferozepur, and Tarn Taran from February 8 to February 11 to engage directly with the local population.
In Hoshiarpur, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann provided updates on the state’s infrastructure and agricultural progress. He noted that the government has successfully reopened over 18,349 canals that had been closed for decades. “For the first time since independence, 150 km of canals are being constructed at a cost of Rs 2,300 crore,” the Chief Minister said. He also mentioned that the closure of 21 toll plazas has saved the public approximately Rs 67.77 lakh daily.
The Chief Minister shared successes in the education sector, citing the establishment of 118 Schools of Eminence and specialized international training for teachers in Singapore and Finland. He further addressed border security, mentioning that 498 drone activities have been foiled and 256 drones recovered along the 532 km border with Pakistan.
Regarding future welfare, the Chief Minister mentioned the upcoming budget would include the promised monthly assistance of Rs 1000 for women. He also praised the resilience of Punjabis during last year’s floods, noting that their mutual support allowed for a recovery that would have taken other states years to achieve.
