Shimla, Jan 27: The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow weather warning as heavy snow and rainfall are predicted to continue across several Himachal Pradesh districts, including Shimla, Kullu, and Chamba. Forecasters mentioned that the middle and higher hills remain vulnerable to consistent precipitation over the next few hours, with another spell anticipated to begin on February 1.
In response to the deteriorating weather conditions and safety concerns, local authorities have begun implementing precautionary measures. The Kullu district administration decided to keep all educational institutions in the district closed on January 28. “Heavy snowfall and rainfall are very likely to continue across the state,” a spokesperson from the Meteorological Department said while describing the forecast for the tribal and hilly belts.
Dense fog and cold wave conditions are also expected to impact the lower districts. Areas such as Kangra, Una, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur are under a weather watch until January 30. The current atmospheric setup suggests that the cold wave will persist, as many regions are already grappling with near-freezing temperatures.
Manali recorded a minimum temperature of 0.6°C, while Kukumseri stayed at minus 2.9°C. Officials noted that the combination of moisture and falling temperatures might lead to hazardous driving conditions in the plains due to fog, even as the higher altitudes deal with the immediate impact of the snow.
