Srinagar, Feb 10: A combination of light snowfall in the mountains and rain in the plains characterized Tuesday’s weather in Jammu and Kashmir, even as the region experienced a noticeable upward trend in temperatures.

The middle and upper reaches, including Doodhpathri and the Daksum–Sinthan top, saw fresh snow accumulations. Meanwhile, parts of the Kashmir plains dealt with afternoon rain. The Meteorological Department mentioned that while Wednesday might see isolated light rain or snow, the following ten days are predicted to remain generally dry, with only minor snowfall possible over a few peaks on February 14 and 17.

“The weather is expected to remain largely dry from February 11 to 20,” the department noted in its latest bulletin. Officials mentioned that the current atmospheric conditions include generally cloudy skies with the possibility of gusty winds in certain sectors.

In the Jammu region, Katra recorded a minimum of 11.2 degrees Celsius, while Bhaderwah stayed at 2.4 degrees Celsius. Srinagar’s maximum temperature climbed to 10.6 degrees Celsius, reflecting the overall improvement in the thermal profile of the Union Territory.

The weather office mentioned that travellers and transporters must strictly follow official advisories due to the unpredictable nature of mountain weather. Officials also directly said that residents should remain cautious of venturing into high-altitude areas. Despite the recent precipitation, the department mentioned that the month of February is currently tracking toward an overall rainfall deficit for the territory.
