Kurukshetra, Feb 17:  A 19-year-old Computer Science and Engineering student was found hanging in his hostel room at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kurukshetra on Monday. The deceased, identified as Angod Shiva, was a first-semester student hailing from Maheshwari village in the Rangareddy district of Telangana.

The incident occurred while Shiva was alone in the room. According to officials, he had attended his morning classes at 10 a.m. and returned to the hostel afterward. When he failed to arrive at the mess for lunch, a roommate went to check on him but found the door locked from the inside. Upon looking through a rear window, the roommate discovered Shiva hanging from a ceiling fan.

“The body has been taken into custody and kept in the mortuary of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital for post-mortem examination,” stated Vinod Kumar, in charge of the local police post. He maintained that the administration was informed immediately after the discovery.

Police confirmed that no suicide note was recovered from the scene. Shiva’s roommates, both residents of Haryana, told investigators that he often spoke on the phone in his native language, though he used Hindi to communicate with them.

The Thanesar police have initiated legal proceedings and are currently awaiting the arrival of the student’s family from Telangana. “Further action will be taken based on the statement of the family,” Kumar affirmed.
