Mohali, March 14: Women from across the Mohali constituency gathered for a celebratory ‘Jago’ procession on Saturday, marking the implementation of the state’s promised financial aid for women over 18. The march, led by Ramanpreet Kaur Kumbhra, aimed to highlight the benefits of the ‘Chief Minister’s Maa, Beti aur Behan Samman Yojana.’

The procession, which included approximately 200 participants, wound through the city’s main markets to the sounds of traditional drums. The event served as a public thank-you to the administration for the inclusion of the honorarium in the latest budget.

According to officials at the event, the scheme distinguishes between categories to ensure equitable support, with SC category women receiving Rs 1,500 and others receiving Rs 1,000 every month. Kumbhra affirmed that this move validates the government’s dedication to its 2022 election mandates.

“It is in keeping with the principle of public service that the government has announced this monthly assistance for every woman,” Kumbhra asserted.

The event saw participation from a wide cross-section of the community, including Sarabjit Kaur Daun and Savita Parinja, who declared that the scheme has created a sense of security and joy among the residents. Supporters maintained that the ‘Jago’ format was chosen specifically to awaken awareness among those who will benefit most from the new policy.
