Amritsar, March 28: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has expanded its financial outlay for the upcoming year, approving a ₹1,487.41 crore budget that emphasizes both institutional growth and community advocacy. President Harjinder Singh Dhami presided over the Saturday session, where leadership affirmed that the 7.28 percent increase in funds would support the organization’s diverse religious and educational commitments.

General Secretary Sher Singh Mandwalla asserted that the current budget marks a clear upward trajectory from last year’s ₹1,386 crore allocation. The meeting, attended by the Jathedars of the Akal Takht and Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, served as a platform to address pressing social and political concerns facing the community.

Members expressed serious concern regarding challenges to the distinct identity of the Sikh faith, declaring a need for heightened vigilance. A resolution was adopted urging the government to share details of proposed anti-sacrilege laws with the community to ensure the legislation meets their expectations and religious requirements.

“The members also expressed concern over perceived challenges to the distinct identity and existence of the Sikh religion,” the committee stated, reflecting the tone of the general house. Amidst the financial planning, the house maintained its stance on the release of Sikh prisoners, affirming that this remains a priority for the organization in the coming year.
