Amritsar, March 29: A major attempt to smuggle high-grade illegal arms into Punjab was thwarted by the Amritsar police following the recovery of two 9 mm sub-machine guns. The weapons are believed to be linked to the gang operated by Gurpreet Singh, alias Goldy Dhillon.
The recovery took place during a routine checking exercise when police teams flagged a suspicious movement. While the individuals carrying the consignment escaped the immediate area, the illegal firearms were left behind and taken into custody.
DGP Gaurav Yadav asserted that the seized weapons were part of a larger plan to facilitate criminal activities across the state. He affirmed that the police are committed to dismantling the ties between local smugglers and organized crime figures.
Law enforcement has initiated a case at the Chheharta police station under the Arms Act. Officials maintained that the focus of the ongoing probe is to map out the smuggling route and locate the fugitives who abandoned the cargo.
The police declared that this breakthrough is part of a wider effort to curb the influx of illegal weaponry. They stated that further details would be shared as the investigation into Goldy Dhillon’s suspected involvement progresses.
