Abohar, March 31: A major cross-border drug trafficking operation has been exposed following the arrest of five men caught attempting to recover a drone-dropped heroin shipment near the international border. Investigators maintained that the group was led by an individual with direct ties to a Pakistani handler, facilitating the flow of narcotics into the region.

The police recovery included 20 packets of heroin weighing approximately 10.8 kilograms, alongside specialized equipment such as radium sticks and packing tape used to locate and secure the drops at night. Officials asserted that the mastermind, Harmesh Singh, utilized his direct contact with a smuggler across the border to orchestrate the logistics.

During questioning, the suspects stated that they had successfully smuggled a larger 12-kilogram batch through the same route in February. SP Hari Shankar Yadav noted that the motorcycle used in that earlier delivery has been confiscated as evidence.

“Interrogation revealed Harmesh Singh had direct contact with Pakistani smuggler Khan Baba,” Yadav affirmed. “He paid locals to retrieve the heroin, which was buried in a sandy dune.”

The pay structure for the couriers ranged from 10,000 to 50,000 rupees per kilogram, depending on the risk and volume of the shipment. Authorities declared that the local recruits were merely the “feet on the ground” for a much larger syndicate.

Security agencies asserted that while the primary couriers have been neutralized, the investigation is now focused on the high-level buyers in Punjab. Police stated that additional raids are being conducted to apprehend the remaining members of the network who manage the final distribution of the Pakistani-sourced heroin.
