Security Directives Halt Services at Dubai Worship Centers

Churches and temples move to online platforms following government safety guidance

Dubai, April 3: Religious landmarks across Dubai, including the city’s main Gurdwara and several Hindu temples, have shuttered their doors following a security mandate from local authorities. The Shri Krishna Temple and the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara are among the sites that ceased operations on Friday, citing instructions aimed at maintaining public safety.

The closures have also disrupted Christian observances, as many churches were forced to abandon scheduled Good Friday gatherings. While some institutions managed to broadcast services online, others advised their members to observe the holy day through private prayer at home.

The management of the Shri Krishna Temple in Bur Dubai affirmed that the facility would stay closed starting April 3, 2026, until they receive further communication from the government. They stated that the measures are necessary to address current security concerns and requested the support of the faithful during this period.

“The step was taken as a precaution for security reasons,” declared Surender Singh Kandhari, head of the local Gurdwara. He stated that the instructions originated from the Community Development Authority, which oversees social and religious organizations in the emirate.

Despite the widespread announcements, crowds of worshippers still arrived at various sites throughout the morning, only to find the premises secured by staff. Church and temple leaders asserted that they would provide updates regarding the resumption of services as soon as the security situation is reviewed by Dubai authorities.
