Municipal Corporation Proposes Tougher Stance on Illegal Parking

New Policy Includes Permit Cancellation for Repeat Offenders

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, April 5: A comprehensive plan to regulate the parking of tourist buses in Chandigarh will be presented to the Municipal Corporation House this Wednesday. The proposal introduces a structured penalty ladder and a monthly permit system aimed at streamlining traffic and land use within the city.

The administrative committee, established following High Court orders in the case of the Chandigarh Tourist Bus Operators Association, declared that strict enforcement is necessary to maintain order. The committee maintained that repeat offenders should face severe consequences, culminating in the loss of their operating permits after a fourth violation.

“The MC will write to the State Transport Authority, UT Chandigarh, for cancellation of the bus permit,” the agenda asserted regarding chronic violators.

Financial provisions within the proposal include a new monthly pass option for operators. The committee declared that a charge of Rs 3,000 per month would be applicable, which functions alongside the daily parking rates previously sanctioned by the General House.

The upcoming meeting will also address employee welfare and public amenities. The MC stated that a proposal to grant dress allowances to Fire and Rescue Services personnel is on the table. Additionally, the corporation affirmed its intent to bridge a gap in park infrastructure by establishing official norms for toilet construction.

Officials stated that while 144 green belts are equipped with play equipment and huts, the lack of a uniform policy for public toilets has necessitated this new legislative push to improve visitor experiences in Chandigarh’s recreational spaces.
