CHANDIGARH, May 1 — Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann successfully navigated a confidence motion in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Friday, with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party demonstrating a solid front. The motion was passed unanimously by the members present, serving to reinforce the government’s standing amid ongoing political debates regarding party defections.

While the majority of the opposition benches remained empty due to walkouts and boycotts, the ruling party’s 94 MLAs affirmed their support for the leadership. Mann stated that the move was strategic, designed to counter narratives that suggested the government was facing a crisis of numbers. He maintained that the AAP remains a cohesive force dedicated to the people of Punjab.

“The party is united,” Chief Minister Mann declared during the session. He affirmed that the motion serves as a definitive answer to critics who have questioned the stability of the administration in recent weeks. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, who supported the motion, stated that the government’s focus remains on delivering development and maintaining peace.

Following the legislative victory, the Chief Minister announced that he would embark on a “Shukrana Yatra” across the state starting next week. He affirmed that the tour, running from May 6 to May 9, is dedicated to the passage of the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib (Amendment) Act. Mann stated that this law is a vital tool for preserving communal harmony and protecting religious sentiments in Punjab.

Observers noted that the special session, convened on International Labour Day, effectively allowed the government to reclaim the political narrative. Authorities stated that with the confidence of the House secured, the administration would now move forward with its scheduled visits and developmental projects across various districts.
