New Delhi, May 14: For resource conservation, the Delhi government has ordered government employees to work from home two days a week. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta declared that the decision stems from the need to spend wisely in view of the ongoing war in West Asia and the resulting uncertainty in crude oil supplies. The new protocols were established following a high-level meeting with cabinet ministers and senior officials to discuss austerity measures.
The Chief Minister asserted that the leadership would lead by example, with ministers and top-ranking officers switching to the Metro for their weekly Monday travel. To demonstrate a personal commitment to the cause, Gupta stated that her carcade has been significantly downsized, now consisting of just two electric vehicles and two standard security cars. She maintained that these steps are essential for reducing the city’s overall energy footprint during the current crisis.
Government spending on non-essential activities will also be curtailed, with a one-year ban on foreign travel for ministers and a temporary halt on hosting major public events. Officials stated that these measures are intended to optimize the use of public funds and energy reserves. The Chief Minister affirmed that the government’s priority is to implement the Prime Minister’s vision for fuel efficiency while maintaining administrative functionality through remote work and public transportation.
