GURDASPUR, May 17 — The state’s specialized security divisions dismantled an active cross-border operational module on Sunday with the apprehension of three men accused of launching a grenade attack in a crowded commercial sector.
The joint enforcement unit, comprising the local district police and the Punjab Counter Intelligence wing, successfully traced the suspects following a multi-week investigation into the unexploded device discovered on April 27.
Police supervisors maintained that the targeted operation has effectively neutralized an immediate threat to public safety in the border belt. According to information shared by senior law enforcement personnel, the suspects had received a consignment of two hand grenades from a handler based outside the country, using one for the attempted strike near Geeta Bhawan Road and stockpiling the second for future operations.
State security directors declared that modern surveillance systems and community informants played a decisive role in resolving the security challenge. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav asserted that the collaborative efforts of the Gurdaspur police and the Counter Intelligence branch resulted in the direct identification and capture of the trio. He stated that the retrieval of the second live grenade from a suspect’s home underscores the volatile nature of the network and the importance of timely intervention.
Legal experts noted that the invocation of national security statutes will allow for an expanded scope of investigation. Representatives maintained that the formal charges filed under the Explosive Substances Act and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act will grant investigators the necessary framework to uncover the financial channels used to sponsor the plot. The state continues to conduct targeted raids to intercept any remaining active components associated with the module.
