CHANDIGARH, MAY 29 — A Patiala resident has successfully entered the commissioned ranks of the Indian Navy following her graduation from the premier naval training academy on Friday.

Sub Lieutenant Nisha, an alumna of the state’s Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute for Girls, completed her rigorous pre-commissioning curriculum at the Indian Naval Academy located in Ezhimala, Kerala. Her entry into the officer ranks took place during a formal ceremony reviewed by Southern Naval Command Chief Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena.

Nisha’s father, Dinesh Chander, works as a Senior Assistant within the administrative setup of Punjabi University. Her entry into the naval officer corps adds to the growing roster of successful defense candidates produced by the Mohali-based preparatory academy.

“The rigorous routine at the institute has prepared another capable officer for the nation,” Major General Jasbir Singh Sandhu (Retd), Director of Mai Bhago AFPI, declared. “Every single commission validates our training methodologies and acts as a catalyst for future batches of young women who aspire to command in the defense forces.”

Cabinet Minister Aman Arora extended official greetings to the newly minted officer on behalf of the state government. He maintained that the administration remains highly focused on backing the career choices of women who eye administrative and operational roles within the Indian army, navy, and air force. He noted that the implementation of the NDA Preparatory Wing at the Mohali campus since July 2023 stands as a key part of this strategy.

“Our objective is to ensure that financial or geographical barriers do not hinder capable candidates from reaching the academies,” Mr. Arora affirmed. “This commission proves that our structural investments are yielding concrete results on the ground, and we will continue to support the expansion of these specialized wings.”
