GURUGRAM, May 18, 2026 –A local court has transferred Punjab Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora to jail under a two-week judicial remand.

The central probe agency presented the Aam Aadmi Party lawmaker in court upon the conclusion of his extended nine-day custodial interrogation. Defense attorney Arjun Dewan requested special medical provisions for his client during his stay at the Bhondsi detention complex, while special counsel for the federal agency maintained that keeping the suspect in custody is essential to prevent the modification of records or the intimidation of upcoming witnesses.

“There is an apprehension of tampering with the evidence and influencing the summoned witnesses which is likely to impact the ongoing investigation,” special counsel Zoheb Hussain asserted during the proceedings.

The financial investigation has broadened to look into administrative decisions made by senior state power utility officials. Federal investigators stated that they have directed Powercom Chairman Basant Garg and Commercial Director Harsharan Kaur Trehan to present relevant institutional records regarding corporate guarantees later this week.

The state-level political atmosphere has grown highly tense since the minister’s initial arrest earlier this month, which prompted brief public demonstrations by ruling party members who claim the central enforcement mechanisms are being deployed with political bias.

The state agency noted that the core transactions under evaluation involve the fabrication of mobile phone purchase documents to secure fraudulent tax refunds and input tax credits through non-functional dummy enterprises. While the defense maintains that the minister is being subjected to unfounded assumptions without prima facie evidence, the special court affirmed that the gravity of the fiscal allegations warrants his continued detention until the next scheduled hearing on June 1.
