Active Storm Disrupts Summer Heat

Meteorological department issues fresh warnings following morning downpour

by TheReportingTimes

CHANDIGARH, MAY 30 — A heavy weather system ended days of intense regional heat across Chandigarh on Saturday morning, generating widespread showers and sharp winds after previous atmospheric warnings had failed to materialize.

The regional landscape experienced near-total darkness at approximately 7:30 a.m. before a cool breeze transitioned into active, moderate rain across the Tricity by 8 a.m. The sudden precipitation effectively ended the prolonged heatwave conditions that had restricted outdoor activities across Mohali, Panchkula, and Chandigarh for nearly a week.

“The long-awaited relief was finally at hand,” administrative updates noted, confirming that the morning downpour effectively lowered the high baseline temperatures that began building on Monday.

Following the onset of the rain, the India Meteorological Department maintained a strict safety posture, issuing a renewed red alert for the territory on Saturday. The dynamic nowcast indicated a strong likelihood of continued thunderstorms, scattered hail, and violent winds gusting up to 80 kmph across the shared municipal sectors.

Local safety administrators urged citizens to prioritize personal safety by staying indoors, highlighting the hazards of falling branches and unsecured structures during the high-velocity wind conditions.
