CHANDIGARH, JUNE 8 — A fresh ₹29 surcharge on domestic cooking gas cylinders will severely disrupt household budgets and stall the recovery of small businesses, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated Sunday. Critiquing the central government’s financial policies, the senior Aam Aadmi Party official asserted that cumulative hikes across fuel lines have pushed millions toward severe economic hardship.
The baseline pricing changes arrive amid broader escalations in commercial transit fuel rates, creating an inflation loop that threatens daily operations for small-scale merchants.
“The increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices has already impacted small businesses, street vendors, and local eateries,” Cheema noted, warning that compounding household expenses would weaken overall consumer spending across regional markets.
The finance minister reordered the economic arguments to focus heavily on weakened consumer purchasing power, asserting that global supply chain arguments presented by federal authorities are largely deflection. He stated that domestic pricing policies fail to shield ordinary citizens from international market shocks.
“The continuous rise in fuel and cooking gas prices is pushing the country towards economic hardship,” Cheema declared. “The Centre must stop burdening ordinary people and focus on providing genuine relief to the masses.”
According to state observations, the persistent adjustments to diesel, compressed natural gas, and cooking gas run completely counter to initial administrative promises of keeping essential commodities accessible to the public.
“The Modi government’s economic policies have weakened the country’s economic condition and reduced the purchasing power of ordinary people,” Cheema asserted, adding that international diplomatic travels have yielded no tangible financial insulation for domestic consumers.
The state administration maintained that immediate price rollbacks remain the only viable short-term measure to protect low-income families from deeper structural debt.
