Chandigarh, June 12: The Shiromani Akali Dal has called upon the Akal Takht leadership to address a matter concerning institutional traditions, following a recent legal deposition by former Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh. The former Jathedar recorded his statement before the Special Investigation Team handling the Behbal Kalan inquiry, reportedly stating that SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal had acknowledged responsibility for the firing incident during prior spiritual proceedings.
Party representatives expressed deep concern over the integration of sacred temporal proceedings into legal cases. Dr Daljit Cheema, speaking for the party, declared that the move undermines established conventions and compromises the standing of the historical seat. He maintained that the leadership had previously abided by all religious decisions, and argued that reviving the matter serves political interests rather than administrative justice.
Further expanding on the party’s position, Arshdeep Kler asserted that the ongoing developments are part of an effort by the state government to manage public narrative. The party has requested Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj to review the circumstances surrounding the statement to ensure the preservation of traditional religious protocols.
